Five students, Tia, Malena, John, Christian, and David, from the University of Georgia received Boren Scholarships this year.

Tia Ayele, an international affairs major, will spend a year in Addis Ababa studying Amharic and Arabic. She hopes to work in the Department of State after graduating.

Arabic and religion majors Malena Lopez-Sotelo will travel to India to improve her Urdu and conduct research on Islamic religious studies.

John Esteba Rodriguez is an English and honors interdisciplinary major (with an international development and human rights emphasis) and will take Arabic in Amman.

Christian Conroy is an international affairs and political science double major and will take Mandarin in Nanjing and Kunming for the year. He is interested in nuclear nonproliferation and disarmament.

David Gutierrez will be in Sao Paolo to improve his Portuguese. David is a Spanish and sociology major and hopes to pursue a career with a social policy emphasis.
