David L. Boren Awards for International Study

Emily Hawthorne, an Arabic Flaghip student at The University of Texas at Austin, was selected to receive a 2011-2012 Boren Scholarship.  Emily, who has been studying French and Arabic, will spend the year improving her Arabic skills and, as part of her studies, will complete an internship. 

Emily also received a Mitchell Award for her thesis comparing the halal food markets in France and the United States.  She was recently profiled in an article by The Arabic Flagship Program at The University of Texas at Austin.
