In 2024, the national nominating panel selected 102 Boren Fellows and 215 Boren Scholars from 245 graduate and 625 undergraduate applications. The institutions cited below were the top recipients of these awards based on initial selections -- i.e. before declined awards and the promotion of alternates. The list below shows the overseas locations and languages studied by Boren Awards recipients in 2024. As with the top performers above, these statistics are based on initial awards of the 2024 cohort and may change slightly based on declines and promoted alternates. Please note that the statistics below do not show the likelihood of receiving an award for a particular overseas location or language. Regions with overseas location and languages preferred by the Boren Awards receive awards in roughly the same proportion as applications to those regions. Non-preferred overseas locations and languages are much rarer, and are considered on an individual basis. The Boren Awards did not approve travel to all proposed overseas locations in 2024; however, the Boren Awards did approve alternative overseas locations and study plans provided in the application when possible.
