About Aaron:

Aaron Johnson was a 2011 Boren Fellow to Thailand where he studied Thai and conducted research about the judiciary’s influence on politicians, civil society, civil servants, and public policy. Following his Boren program, Aaron participated in the Fulbright Public Policy Fellow program in 2012 and received his PhD in Political Science from Northern Illinois University in 2016. He fulfilled his service requirement at the Department of Homeland Security as a Refugee Officer and later transitioned to the Department of Defense where he works currently.

"The Boren Fellowship provided me with the resources to improve my Thai which directly affected my ability to successfully conduct fieldwork research and work professionally for the Thai and U.S. federal government. Fulfilling my service requirement as a worldwide refugee officer allowed me to travel the world while protecting the world's most vulnerable population and U.S. national security."
