About Macey:

Macey Mayes was a 2018 Boren Scholar to Indonesia. She studied Indonesian through the Indonesian Flagship Language Initiative (IFLI), now known as the Southeast Asian Flagship Language Initiative (SEAFLI). Following her Boren program, Macey received her Bachelor's in Political Science from the University of Louisville in 2019 and participated in a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Malaysia in 2020. Macey fulfilled her service as an International Trade Compliance Analyst through the International Trade Administration at the Department of Commerce. Macey still works at the Department of Commerce as an International Program Specialist for the Commercial Law Development Program at the Department of Commerce.

"My time as an Indonesian Flagship Language Initiative (IFLI) Boren Scholar was nothing short of life changing. I never dreamed I would be afforded the opportunity to move to the other side of the world to immerse myself in a different culture, or that I could gain the ability to articulate myself in another language. But my Boren experience is the thread that has pieced together the current tapestry of my life--my meaningful friendships, my exciting career, and my future goals."
